Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was convicted of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under home detention pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

This included trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

He said the gathering would be so backers could "pray for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our land."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Recent Legal Requests

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of leading a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the 2022 election to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
