Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior political figure said the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
